Hi,
My name is John Morrison and I have a Ph.D. in educational leadership and am a career educator serving in roles ranging from classroom teacher to instructional coach to principal to director at a nonprofit startup.
My love of philosophy and lifelong learning prompted me to found Socratic Life Daily in an effort to encourage others to begin examining their lives more purposefully.
The Socratic Teacher is a consulting and speaking service designed to empower educators and students to be more mindful of their teaching and learning experience.
I provide content every day on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube and have been working on several courses to help introduce life-changing concepts to normal people (i.e. "non-philosophers").
Topics include Blooms Taxonomy, SOLO, Socratic Seminars, Critical Friends, Addressing Learning Gaps, Differentiation, Classroom Management, Dealing with Troubled Students, Dealing with Troubled Adults (Teachers), and SEL Techniques.
Stories to encourage students to begin thinking about how to find meaning and purpose in their lives.
Dr. Morrison's experience with philosophical concepts and nearly two decades in public education can help you address burnout in a more effective way.
Several principles and steps to follow to ensure the workplace atmosphere is a warm and inviting place.
A lengthy breakdown of the Socratic Method and how managers can use it to achieve their desired outcomes from staff meetings.
It's important to be mindful of the pillars of intrapersonal intelligence (intuition, self-direction, imagination, creativity, personal resilience) and how to strengthen them through mindfulness.
A breakdown on how colleagues can better communicate with one another and how to prevent a conversation from getting uncomfortably personal.
Albert Camus argued that the universe is cold and indifferent toward us and it is up to us to create our own meaning. This seminar encourages attendees to begin thinking differently about the tasks that have been assigned to them and encourages them to find meaning in their everyday duties, no matter how menial.
If none of the above topics are of interest to you, please reach out and share your vision for what you would like your team to better understand or execute and we can craft a seminar that meets your needs.
In the book, 10 Strategies to Help Students Build Character, Dr. Morrison outlines how a teacher can approach building relationships with students while helping them recognize key character traits that can help them become good students and citizens. Additionally, it sets the foundation for how a teacher can approach the profession with purpose.
Teaching with Purpose suggests that teachers of every grade and level should consider the three tenets of progressive education: Think, Do, Contribute.
A purpose driven teacher is one who is mindful not only of their content and why they chose to become a teacher in the first place...but how to factor in these three principles on a consistent basis.
